Cameron Lockhart

Cameron’s passion for climate action led him to become an Energy Advisor in 2018, leveraging over a decade of experience in the trades. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Victoria and a Master’s in Sustainable Development from the University of Utrecht, he is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector through energy efficiency measures and low-carbon materials.

Cameron possesses a deep understanding of complex building science concepts and has a natural talent for communicating technical ideas to others in a powerful way. He is involved in multiple technical committees (HPSC EA Sector Council, CHBA working group on national renovation code, BuiltGreen Technical Committee) to advance low-carbon construction by fostering innovation and sharing expertise. His belief in analyzing the complete lifecycle of buildings and their materials is instrumental in pushing the boundaries for a more sustainable world.

Cameron’s motivation for ensuring that the planet stays comfortable and enjoyable for future generations relates strongly to his appreciation for his wife and two small children. Together, they enjoy going hiking and camping around the many beautiful natural wilderness areas that surround us and that they wish to preserve.

Cameron provides services and support for both new and existing homes

Existing home services include:

  • on-site EnerGuide evaluations
  • Comparative energy modeling and customized reporting comparing different upgrade options and their impacts
  • Net Zero Renovation certification
  • F280-12 heating load calculations for mechanical systems
  • Guidance on all funding available through rebate, grant and loan programs
  • Support with local authorities having jurisdiction including City of Vancouver and Vancouver Building By-law.
  • Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) services demonstrating life cycle carbon for residential buildings.

New home services include:

  • Energy modeling for single family and multi-unit part 9 buildings demonstrating compliance with BC Step Code
  • Energy modeling for single family and multi-unit part 9 buildings demonstrating compliance with VBBL following  prescriptive, performance or Net Zero path
  • High performance home energy design including CHBA Net Zero and Built Green Net Zero + labeling, as well as most other performance design certifications
  • F280-12 heating load calculations for mechanical systems, HVAC system design and commissioning, and HRV design services
  • Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) services demonstrating life cycle carbon for residential buildings.

Other Services:

  • Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) services demonstrating life cycle carbon for part 3 buildings, including providing compliance reports for Vancouver Embodied Carbon Bylaw for rezoning and building permit applications.
  • Public speaking and  technical expertise in the context of organization and community education on building science and home energy efficiency. Topics covered previously include: air tightness and air sealing of new and existing homes, air barrier strategies and demonstration of common leakage areas, house as a system thinking, life cycle carbon and embodied emissions for part 3 or part 9 construction, as well as home electrification and fuel switching.
  • Large building air tightness testing services.  Guarded and unguarded testing and reporting can be provided to demonstrate individual unit or whole building air tightness across single or multiple air volumes.  Experience with operating multiple fans though a local area network to facilitate large building and multi zone tests.  Independant air testing services for passive house compliance are also available.
  • Support for organizations, agencies, First Nations and individuals seeking funding through CHMC, province of British Columbia or other programs and providers.  This can take the form of customized energy modeling and analysis or specific reporting as needed.
