Saanich Green Building Rebate Program
Rebates for New Residential Construction
Since September 2007, the District of Saanich has offered rebates of up to 30% off their building permit fees for new single family homes built to third party green building rating system standards; green homes less than 2000 sq ft may receive up to 50% off their building permit fees.
Rebates for Residential Renovation Projects
Building permit rebates can be accessed for both new construction and larger renovation projects. The "Gold, Silver and Bronze Renovations" standards in the chart below must be accessed with a home energy assessment before any construction on the project begins to obtain a baseline EnerGuide rating on the home. Through this program, homes may also become eligible for government grants.
The foundation of each of the green building rating systems is the EnerGuide Rating, which measures a home's total energy efficiency on a scale of 1 to 100, where the higher the number, the more efficient the home. As shown above, green building rating system options include:

- Built Green
Residential Green Building Consultations
To support this initiative, City Green Solutions is contracted by the District of Saanich to provide 'GreenStart' green building consultations to builders who apply for a building permit in Saanich. Builders will receive a voucher for a free 'GreenStart' consulation from the Saanich building permit desk.
'GreenStart' green building consultations provide an overview of best practices for energy efficient homes and help builders review and choose the best green rating program for their current project.
The Green Building Rebate Program is on-going and a part of the Saanich’s Climate Change Action Plan.
