Paper and Energy Conservation Winner in the Kootenays

Congratulations to Andromeda Drake for making the choice to leave a lighter footprint.

Congratulations to Nelson and District Credit Union (NDCU) member, Andromeda Drake, for winning a home energy assessment from City Green Solutions through our recent eStatement promotion.

All members who had already suppressed their mailed paper statements or registered to opt-out of receiving mailed paper statements between January 25 and May 31, 2010 were eligible to win the energy assessment.

Andromeda’s name was randomly selected from all of the eligible entries.

By opting-out of mailed paper statements and using eStatements the Credit Union membership is showing their commitment to the environment.

Last year NDCU mailed almost 200,000 sheets of paper and to date has close to 15% of the members saying “No” to receiving mailed paper statements.

“An impressive number considering the short period of time we have offered this service,” states NDCU’s Manager-Technology, Alan Danks. He continues, “Up until now most of our Members have not been able to opt-out of their mailed paper statements due to regulatory requirements imposed on the credit union system, eStatements allow for that flexibility.

Members can try the eStatement service out for themselves and if they like it they can opt-out of their paper-statements with a simple click of their computer mouse.

They will benefit from a fast, convenient service, with a seven-year electronic archive beginning December 2009. We are excited to be providing this logical solution and members wishing more information on opting-out of their mailed statement can contact us.”

Collaboration with City Green Solutions was also an important part of the promotions success. “City Green encourages all Nelson & District Credit Union members to opt-out of mailed statements as a simple step to reduce their paper consumption,” says Glenys Verhulst, Communications Coordinator with City Green Solutions, based out of Victoria.

“The lucky winner of the home energy assessment will receive expert energy efficiency advice, a prioritized retrofit plan and access to government grants for upgrades to windows, heating, hot water, insulation and more from a Kootenay based certified energy advisor!”

Congratulations to Andromeda Drake for making the choice to leave a lighter footprint.
