ecoENERGY FAQs

Eligibility

What homes are eligible?

Your building is eligible if you are the owner or landlord of:

  • a single family home, duplex, or other row townhouse or
  • a mobile home on a permanent foundation
  • a low-rise multi-unit residential building - other criteria

At the time of the first assessment, the building must be completely habitable, with the building envelope intact and the mechanical systems installed and working.

If your house has one unit stacked above the other, each with seperate entrances and no shared heating system, it may be considered a multi-unit residential building. Please ask about our specialty energy assessments available for multi-unit residential buildings.

What if I'm building an addition?

Energy efficient upgrades to the existing home would be eligible for grants, but not new installations to the addition. However, to remain eligible, a home energy assessment must be conducted on the home before any construction begins.

What if I'm building a new home?

The ecoENERGY grant program is not relevant to new construction.

What if I already started my renovations?

If you have already started renovating, consider completing one set of installations and then booking a home energy assessment before starting any others. You will only be eligible for grants on upgrades completed after the first home energy assessment.
